Simply put, the ability to divide complex ideas into simplified parts is referred to as analytical thinking. Analysis encompasses a wide range of skills including critical thinking and reasoning. It teaches students like you how to examine your own beliefs and be open to building on your personal points of view.

Evaluation is the process by which you as a student can grow to become an independent thinker. This process involves assessing and examining concepts, arguments, results, or even performance. It can also be used to differentiate pieces of information that are from credible sources from those that aren’t.

When reading pieces of literature, identify conflicting points of view and evaluate differing perspectives. Engage with the text by agreeing or disagreeing with what you are reading.

Carefully evaluate experimental design to examine the effectiveness of the procedures used, confirm the quality of the data gathered, and spot areas for improvement. 

Researching current political issues requires the evaluation of sources to determine their reliability. Open-mindedness and a willingness to evaluate ideas that counter your own is needed to learn about historical events and figures.

You may encounter problems for which there are no set formulas that can be used. In these cases, you may have to come up with your own methods of obtaining a solution and evaluate each method before selecting one.
